Vegan Lou Yee Sang 纯素捞生

A super popular and must have Chinese New Year dish in Malaysia. Yee Sang/Yu Sheng 鱼生, literally means abundance in Mandarin. Lou (捞)  is an act of toss, Yee Sang (in Cantonese) literally means “raw fish” but since “fish (鱼)” is commonly conflated with its homophone “abundance (余)”, meaning an increase in abundance. Therefore, yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor.

Everything about the Yee Sang focuses on abundance, wealth and prosperity starting with the tossing of all the ingredients. A simple act to merely mix everything evenly, this particular gesture has been elevated to the physical act of lifting your hopes and wishes to the maximum “ the height of your toss is proportional to your growth in fortunes. The higher you toss, the higher your growth in the coming year!

Tossing the Yee Sang is often referred to as Lou Hei meaning to prosper more and more! It’s not surprising then that you get a beautiful mess on the platter once the Yee Sang has been tossed!

Last years my vegan Lou Yee Sang used water apple, mango and passion fruit dressing. This year my recipe consists of jackfruit, burdock roots pickles mixed with shredded vegetables and mandarin  orange dressing and the aroma taste of jack fruit is amazing match with this healthy vegan Lou Yee Sang. Taste so Gooooood    yum…yum…

Wish all L0u Hei with Healthy Vegan Lou Yee Sang
