Amazing Cast #SilentTearsMusical Camellia Abou-Odah
Referred to by Stevie Wonder as brilliant and genuine, Camellia is a gifted singer-songwriter who embraces her Lebanese and Palestinian roots. She has co-written and recorded a song with rapper AMG that appeared on the 2010 season of Entourage (HBO) and performed at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China. She has collaborated with multi-platinum Grammy winning producer Danny Sembello, who said of Camellia, Rarely do I come across a young artist who can transcend the boundaries of musical genres. Her songs are raw, organic, and from the heart. Currently working to combine Arab and Western music elements in her unique sound, she will be releasing her debut album in 2013.
Born in Poco de Caldas, Brazil, Fabiana Passoni began singing when she was 6 years old, taught by her father. After running a successful music school in her hometown, she moved to the United States where she developed her own unique musical style. With joyful rhythms and a velvety, rich Brazilian voice, Fabiana was named Best Brazilian Female Singer living in the US by the Brazilian International Press Awards 2012 Col©gio Eleitoral. With 3 albums produced so far, Fabianas songs are a combination of jazz fusion with the older rhythms of Brazil such as bossa nova, baio, and samba. With passionate interpretations, her live performances are a celebration of Brazilian soul and culture rich in percussion and expression with a relentless zeal for life.
Tony winner Kiril Kulish He is a dancer, actor, singer, musician and all-around sensation. He is best known for playing the starring role of Billy in Elton John and Lee Hallâs Billy Elliot the Musical for its Broadway opening in 2008. For his fantastic performance, he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and more recently a Fred Astaire Award, Theatre World Award and Outer Critics Circle Special Achievement Award. At age 12, he garnered the Hope Award for Best Overall Performance at the Youth America Grand Prix, the world’s largest student ballet competition. Kiril is also a ballroom dance champion and concert pianist.
Over an impressive 40-year history, reggae legends Black Uhuru was the first ever band to win the Grammy Award in the Reggae Music category. Founded by Duckie Simpson in Kingston, Jamaica, Black Uhuru has headlined many music festivals across the globe and toured with groups such asÂ The Rolling Stones and The Police. Their celebrated album Red, calling for cultural change and religious faith, ranked #28 in the UK album chart and #23 in Rolling Stone magazines 100 Best Albums of the Eighties. Today, Duckie Simpson, Andrew Bees, and Kay Starr continue to give memorable live performances, often joined by other acclaimed artists. Uhuru means freedom in Swahili.
Katie McMahon, best known for her exquisite soaring soprano solo in the original Riverdance single, which topped the charts in Ireland for three months. She toured with the hugely popular show Riverdance with Michael Flatley, for five years as their original lead vocalist. Her voice has been described by the Irish Times as “poetry, perfection and purity.” Before her work in Riverdance, Katie, a born and bred Dubliner, was classically trained in voice and harp. She was a member of the renowned ANNA, Irelands National Choir, and a featured soloist on their first two CDs. With five acclaimed solo CDs, she has toured with the group Secret Garden as lead singer and harpist and founded her own band and troupe of Irish dancers, who perform throughout the US.
Liel Kolet. Blessed with an immensely talented voice, international singer-songwriter, award-winning Israeli singer, and peace activist Liel has dedicated her career to peace. Since she won a European talent contest at age 12, Liel has performed in hundreds of concerts around the world and helped raise millions in funds for respected aid organizations. At age 14, she invited President Bill Clinton to join her on stage in a historical duet that gave her peace mission global exposure. Renowned artsits Andrea Bocelli, Herbie Hancock,Patty LaBelle and the Scorpions have recorded peace songs with Liel. A German Radio Award winner, she is currently recording with the legendary multi-Grammy winning producer Humberto Gatica. Liel’s PBS special, “Songs for Peace” will air throughout the US in August and September.
Jon Secada, one of the most gifted artists of our time, is not only blessed with a soulful voice, but also with an artistry to create, write and produce music. Inspired by musical moguls such as Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Elton John and Marvin Gaye, Jons music is an eclectic fusion of all these sounds. With a bit of funk, soul and undertones of Latin percussion, much like his character, Jon has accomplished a unique and striking sound. A three-time Grammy award winning recording artist, a dynamic live performer, a talented, insightful, songwriter, Jon is an international superstar in his own right. Other than that,Jon has devoted himself to assisting charitable groups all over the world, under his organization, “Jon Secada Charities”. He has been active with many causes to help children, education, AIDS research, and child abuse.
Jody Watley, she’s a GRAMMY Award Winning innovative music maker and style-forging pioneer in music, video, dance and fashion as recognized in VOGUE, Harpers Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Essence and Vanity Fair in addition to being named one of People Magazines Most Beautiful People. Watley is one of the first already established artists to embrace the shifting paradigms in the music business and digital platforms embracing the entrepreneurial side releasing music independently since the mid 90’s. Another first for Watley was releasing a million selling video “Dance to Fitness”, which had not been achieved by a black woman or musician.Recent performances have included: Billboard Live in Japan, The Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Smooth Jazz Cruise, Dave Koz and Friends, Soulfood Music Festival, BB King’s New York, The Birchmere DC/VA, and more. Jody Watley has also performed at private events for clients ranging from Revlon, Diesel, Cole Haan, Swatch and Kraft amongst others.
Debbie Gravitte, has had a varied career taking her from the Broadway Stage to the Symphony Hall and points between. She won the prestigious Tony Award for Best Featured Actress In A Musical for Jerome Robbin’s Broadway, along with a Drama Desk Award Nomination as well as the New York Showstopper Award. After making her Broadway debut in the original cast of They’re Playing Our Song, she went on to appear in: Perfectly Frank (Drama Desk Award Nomination), BLUES IN THE NIGHT, AIN’T BROADWAY GRAND, ZORBA, CHICAGO, and LES MISERABLES. Debbie has appeared in the Encore’s series productions of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE, TENDERLOIN, and CARNIVAL at New York’s City Center. Debbie recently debuted with the New York City Ballet singing in Peter Martin’s THOU SWELL at Lincoln Center. She appeared with Bette Midler in the Universal Film, Isn’t She Great?, and can be heard as one of the voices in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Debbie is a proud and tired mother of three beautiful children.
Mark Janicello,the multi-talented American. Tenor, Singer, Actor, Author, Director, Poet, Painter and Lyricist. Mark is a well-known musical performer in the German-speaking countries of the world. Besides starring in musicals, Janicello has taken part in numerous operas, operettas, galas and concerts. At his age of 10, Mark wrote and illustrated his first Children’s Book “The Cloud Family.” In 1992 he was named Americas Best Street Performer switching between Pavarotti and Elvis style singing, which led to nationwide and international media attention. Becoming widely known especially while living in Europe, he went on to star in Elvis: A Musical Biography and was dubbed the best Elvis interpreter by legendary Elvis composer Ben Weisman. Since 1984 Mark has played leading roles in over 26 Musicals, 32 Operas, 12 Plays, 16 Films (including smaller roles in : “Married to the Mob” with Michelle Pfeiffer, “84 Charing Cross Road” with Anne Bancroft and the leading role in the Independent Film “Mozzarella.” Additionally, he has recorded 30 CDs and appeared more than 150 times on television.
Siavash Shams is a Persian/World Music superstar, pop icon, singer, songwriter, composer and record producer who has sold out venues around the world and written / produced 6 successful albums. Siavash’s distinctive style, looks, dance moves, and vocals have influenced a whole generation of Iranian pop, and R/B artists. In 2003, 3 of his English tracks from his album “The Voice” landed him on the 46th Annual Grammy nomination list. To date, Siavash has sold over 1 million copies of his albums worldwide. His first album “Hamsayeha” remains the number 1 selling Persian album around the world to this day.
Michael Maguire is perhaps best known to theatergoers for his Broadway debut performance as Enjolras in the original Broadway company of Les Miserables, for which he won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Theatre World Award. He has performed all over the United States starring in musicals such as Carousel, Brigadoon, The Desert Song, Annie Get Your Gun, Side By Side By Sondheim, 110 in the Shade, and Showboat. Maguire was featured in the critically acclaimed film Where the Day Takes You. He also appeared with Michelle Pfeiffer in Deep End of the Ocean, Go Fish and LA Pictures. In television, he was a guest star on Quantum Leap and starred on the soap Loving. In addition to his work in musical theatre, Maguire has performed extensively in lighter opera/operetta, oratorio and recital.
Liz Callaway is a Tony Nominee and Emmy Award-winning actress, singer and recording artist. She made her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim Merrily We Roll Along, received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Baby, and for five years, won acclaim as Grizabella in Cats. She has also starred in the original casts of Miss Saigon, The Three Musketeers, and The Look of Love. Liz sang the Academy Award nominated song Journey to the Past in the animated feature Anastasia and is also the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney Aladdin and the King of Thieves and The Return of Jafar. Other film work includes the singing voice of the title character in The Swan Princess, Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, Beauty and the Beast, and The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.
