World Vegan Day

When is World Vegan Day?
World Vegan Day is an annual event celebrated on 1st of November, by vegans around the world. The Day was established in 1994 by Louise Wallis, then President & Chair of The Vegan Society UK. World Vegan Day is also known as International Vegan Day.
2012 marks the 68th anniversary of the term ‘vegan’ (and thus the verbally clarified concept of ‘veganism‘ and of the Vegan Society).
When is World Vegan Month?
And of course, the whole month of November is considered as World Vegan Month.
When is World Vegetarian Day?
To go further, World Vegetarian Day is one month earlier than World Vegan Day, 1st of October!
It is a day of celebration established by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978,
“To promote the joy, compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism.”
It brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.
When is World Vegetarian Month?
I think you are as smart as I am, and you already figured out, the World Vegetarian Month is October (of course).
World Vegetarian Month is also known as
- Vegetarian Awareness Month,
- Reverence for Life month,
- Month of Vegetarian Food, and more…
Meatless Monday
Vegetarian and Religions
Some Catholic and Orthodox Christians may fast or be vegetarian on Fridays, Lent, or Good Friday.
Many Hindus are vegetarian but this is not compulsory. Some of them eat only vegetarian on Tuesday, some on Thursday, some on Friday, and some on Saturday. However, it depends on their group of religion. According to Wikipedia, there are three main reasons for this: the principle of nonviolence (ahimsa) applied to animals, the intention to offer only “pure” (vegetarian) food to a deity and then to receive it back as prasad, and the conviction that non-vegetarian food is detrimental for the mind and for spiritual development. Many Hindus point to scriptural bases, such as the Mahabharata‘s maxim that “Nonviolence is the highest duty and the highest teaching,” as advocating a vegetarian diet.
For Buddhist, there are a lot of Vegetarian Day. Most Buddhists choose to become vegetarian/vegan to avoid killing animals. Similarly to the Hindu concept of Karma, Buddhism proposes that violence or pain inflicted on others will rebound/return on you, hence the need for a vegetarian lifestyle. According to Chinese Lunar Calender, every month, there are 10 days to be considered as Vegetarian Day, which are very important days to a Pure Buddhist, they called 10 Vegetarian Days (十斋日 – 初一、八、十四、十五、十八、二十三、二十四、二十八、二十九、三十), which are the 1st, 8th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 23rd, 24th, 28th, 29th, 30th.
In a nutshell, all religions teach people to be a good and kind-hearted human. Vegetarian/ vegan is a way to show the kindness in your true heart to the world. Besides, do you know that Gaia is sick? So, show your caring and love to save her.
